Hi SHE Fam! Finding the perfect makeup shade, texture and finish can be very challenging. If you find what works it’s always good to stick with it, but for many of us that’s entirely too simple. With the frequent advertisements of new beauty products and an urge for change, it’s easy to find yourself switching your makeup brand 2-3 times a year. I started my love for makeup with the brand we all know and many swear by…MAC Cosmetics. Now, we know that MAC is known to give you the perfect “beat” but can also be a tad bit heavy. Some of the reviews I’ve read matched with my initial experience with MAC and that was the heavy finish. During the 3 years that I wore MAC, my biggest con was that the foundation color was too warm. I often looked very tanned. I straddled between MAC’s Studio Fix (Shade NC 45 and NC 50), never really being satisfied with my blending. Because I didn’t know a whole lot about makeup, instead of doing more research, I decided to try other brands.
My next makeup brand was Clinique’s Perfectly Real. I’ve always adored the clean look. When wearing Clinique, I experienced the complete opposite of what I did when I wore MAC. Clinique left me looking almost ashy (138 Matte Natural). I bounced back and forth with the idea of Clinique and I still love the way it looks on a few other people that wear it, but it definitely wasn’t for me.
Next I went to Bare Minerals, and it was indeed one of my favorites. I used the mineral powder and I loved it. The loose powder was messy when applying, but besides that, it gave me the right amount of coverage and didn’t leave me looking “cakey.” I especially loved Bare Mineral’s Touch Up Veil Broad Spectrum SPF 15. The colored powder looked great after applying my foundation and it didn’t look bad when I needed to apply more throughout the day. My only reservation with Bare Minerals was their concealer. I couldn’t find a really good concealer to match me. Like many women, I struggle with under eye darkness, so concealers are my best friend.
My latest experiment was Make Up Forever’s HD Foundation. I found a shade at Make Up Forever to match my skin, however, I was not in love with the coverage. I found myself having to use tons of product in their HD Foundation just to give me the needed coverage. In addition to the HD Foundation, I used the Makeup Forever Face & Body Foundation. This was amazing for the summer months because its water based and leaves your face hydrated. The consistency and coverage is similar to CC Cream and when adding a primer it lasts for most of the day.
I recently ran out of my Make Up Forever Foundation and thought it was time to revisit MAC. It’s been three years and like many companies, I assumed they’ve made some changes and even added some product lines. I was right! After almost an hour of shopping and testing, I decided to go with MAC’s Matchmaster SPF 15 Liquid Foundation.
What I like about it?
Its light an easy to apply. It blends well and does not leave any texture or “cakey” residue. Also, the color warms to your skin. So the more you blend the better it sets. I decided to add a mineral powder to build on to it (MAC’s Mineralize Foundation). This helps give more coverage. I also went with the Mineralize Concealer that’s strictly for highlighting under the eyes. So far, I’m happy with my buy and I’ve come full circle with my addiction to makeup brands. Needless to say, I’m back to MAC.
With sass and class.
