I had the pleasure of receiving the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow and Restore Shampoo at a natural hair event hosted by Jenelle Stewart. The goodie bags were stuffed with  Shea Moisture products and the one that immediately caught my eye was the shampoo. I am actually a lover of quality shampoos as I believe in shampooing natural hair to maintain its health and improve growth.

I immediately loved the shampoo because it is in a much larger bottle than the one Shea Moisture usually uses for their products. So when I saw that huge bottle, my inner product junkie swooned.

This particular shampoo is geared towards clarifying the hair. This means it is intended to remove product buildup from your scalp and hair which allows your follicles to be cleared of growth strangling gunk. Just think about it, when your scalp is coated in a layer of product and grime from the air and dandruff, it all starts to accumulate in your hair follicle. After the buildup becomes so impacted, it can actually clog the pore and restrict the growth of your hair. This equals balding (which is not good at all).

Co-washing is a huge trend in the natural hair community and this is fine for in-between shampooing. Co-washing does not remove the need for actual cleansing and can be harmful if it is used for the sole purpose of cleaning the scalp and hair.

Let me get off of my soap box though, the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow, and Restore Shampoo is a little different from your usual clarifying shampoo because it also focuses on moisturizing the hair along with ridding your scalp of the yucky stuff.

Usually, naturals cringe when they hear the word clarifying because they are expecting the product to rob our hair of every little drop of moisture. Yes, it is cleansing, but stripping our hair completely is not desirable at all.

The Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow, and Restore Shampoo doesn’t do that though. It effectively cleanses your scalp and leaves your head feeling clean and refreshed without ripping all of the moisture from you strands.

This is so important because when our hair is stripped,  it tangles much easier which can then lead to damage (due to having to forcefully untangle our matted and crispy curls). It is not a pretty situation. The Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow and Restore Shampoo also works to strengthen and rejuvenate your hair since it has castor oil in it. Let’s not forget that this awesome shampoo has one of my favorite ingredients in it as well, Apple Cider Vinegar! ACV is amazing when used properly. It restores healthy PH levels to your hair and scalp. This shampoo is loaded you all. I feel like Shea Moisture took all of our favorite ingredients and put them together in one fabulous shampoo. They totally hit the nail on the head with this one, because I am such a fan of this product and with this big bottle, I know I’ll have it for awhile.
