I love the Braxton sisters. Their family is every bit “Kardashian-like” than many give them credit for. There is the star of the group, Toni. She has been the breadwinner for quite sometime and happens to be the oldest. Then they actually have a brother, Michael Braxton, Jr., that we never see because he couldn’t be bother with the fame. Traci was born after the only boy. She is known to be passive but will give a big bite if provoked. Next in line is Towanda who seems to be the no-nonsense type. Trina was born next. She is the free spirit – not afraid to try just about anything. She can be caught living LIFE. Tamar was the last child and is the loudest child – DOTCOM!
I found a picture of the happy family before the fame and before the fabulous hair. Traci and Towanda were already dabbling in trendy clothes at the time. It certainly looks like Toni was looking for individuality early on.
Here’s another oldie but goody of the Braxton’s.
When the ladies were younger, they began their singing career, thus began their hair journey. The Braxton sisters’s hair game was always up for trying new styles. You can see Toni was already trying out big hair.
If we take a look at them a few years later, we’ll see that they began to experiment with color and various lengths as their singing careers began to take off. Check out those stacked bangs.
Toni was the only one from the group that LaFace Records wanted to sign, therefore she left the group. I’ve read that she had tremendous guilt over this breakup. However, this didn’t stop their hustle or their hair game. Toni started out with what I like to believe is her signature style, the short pixie cut.
Back in the 90’s when Toni emerged on the scene with the single Seven Whole Days, everybody was at there local salon asking for the “Toni”. This lady could sing, had great hair and style. She was a triple threat and still is.
Today Toni can be seen wearing wigs, sew-ins, and her own style – the short pixie. Each time she graces the us the “hair gods” are pleased with her style.
The rest of the sisters took a little longer to make a come up. While Toni was of on a solo career, the remaining four sisters kept the group together. When things didn’t kick off for them as quickly as they would have liked, they joined Toni on tour as backup singers. Traci left the group and started a family instead. She would later come to join them here and there to help out when needed.
These ladies were ahead of their time with the hair game. Can you guess who’s who?
Look at how Trina is not afraid of wigs, extensions and CURLS!
Then, there is Towanda who usually wears her hair in straight styles.
Traci wears her hair short, but not as short as Toni’s pixie cut. She reminds me of their mother, the most.
Lastly, there is Tamar. I just love her and her over-the-top personality. While she tries all styles, her signature style is long wavy curls.
The Braxton Sisters’s Hair
I think Tamar is my favorite of the Braxton’s when comes to her honesty. I love Trina for her free spirit, Traci for her humbleness and loyalty, Towanda for being supportive and Toni because she is the diva. Their hair is legendary and when they all show up somewhere together, the red carpet, TV show or event is better for it.
